LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Kate Hudson may be the No. 1 fan of World Series champ and beau Alex Rodriguez, but in the January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the “Nine” star said it’s her girlfriends that she counts on.
“I don’t know what I’d do without my girlfriends. Let’s be honest, I don’t care how much you’re in love with any man, you need to have your girlfriends to talk to,” Kate told the mag. “Without them, we’re alone. I don’t want to talk to a man about some of the things I feel.”
And she didn’t want to talk to Harper’s Bazaar about her feelings for A-Rod, despite her prominent spot in the stands cheering him on during the World Series.
“I have a child, and there are people involved, and it’s unfair to talk about somebody else, especially when you’re not in that place yet to be discussing those things,” she said without naming the Yankees superstar, who went through an ugly divorce from wife Cynthia Rodriguez after being linked to Madonna in 2008.
“I quickly kissed the cheek,” Kate said of a photo showing her planting a smooch on the slugger. “And I remember one of the headlines the next day said, ‘Makeout Session.’ What is wrong with people?”
However, the free-spirited star said she’s “having a good time right now” with her life and love.
“And no matter how many times my heart breaks, I’ll never be any different,” she said. “I’d rather hang out with the person who’s done everything than who’s done nothing. It would suck to die and not have experienced my life, really.”
Among her experiences is life as a mom to son Ryder – which she said challenges her usual “hippie” mindset.
“I’m a pretty strict mom, which is funny,” she said. “I didn’t think I’d be so strict… I feel like my son needs his routine, but for me I need to step out of my routine. I haven’t figured it all out yet.”
And the star had kind words for her ex-husband and the father of Ryder — Black Crowes rocker Chris Robinson.
“Chris is a great dad. I feel really lucky,” she said. “When we first met, it was so immediate. I had no question in my mind I was supposed to marry him and have children with him.”
That said, don’t expect the star to walk down the aisle again any time soon – with A-Rod or otherwise.
“The routine [of marriage] can kill me,” she said.
