overview
The beautiful, talented and fiery Salma Hayek is perhaps the most powerful Latina actress in Hollywood today commanding high salaries and choice roles. She has her own production company, Ventarosa, which has a holding deal with ABC.
It wasn't always that way. Despite being a huge star in her native Mexico (due to her work as the title character in “Teresa,” a Spanish-language telenovela), she initially had a tough time breaking into Hollywood. After several frustrating years playing stereotyped roles, she finally managed to break out in a movie cast opposite the also not-yet-a-star-in-America, Antonio Banderas. Her sheer determination and drive landed her into increasingly better roles and more control over her own projects.
