LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Chris Brown pleaded not guilty to two felony charges in a Los Angeles Superior Courtroom earlier today.

Brown was charged last month with the two felony charges – assault with force likely to produce great bodily harm and making criminal threats — for an incident on February 8, where he allegedly beat up Rihanna while driving. He faces a potential four years and eight months if convicted on the two counts.

Dozens of paparazzi and news organizations packed the courthouse for Brown’s second hearing over the incident.

Before entering the court, Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos was reportedly working feverishly for a plea agreement.

Prior to Monday’s hearing, Stan Goldman, Professor of Law at Loyola, told Access Hollywood, it may benefit Chris to take a plea deal, even if it did include jail time.

“I think the District Attorney’s office sees this as a potential felony case and in these high profile cases it also sometimes sees a message being sent to the public – ‘Let’s make an example of Chris Brown, let’s certainly not let the public think that he’s getting the benefit of his celebrity-hood by getting a special deal that other people wouldn’t get,’” Goldman said.

Brown is due back in court on April 29.
